remote tab settings

Settings related to remote control assignation and learn.

general

clear all learn

Button. Resets the whole remote configuration of the control to its defaults: MIDI, key, OSC, timecode, bind bus, bind control, VCA, cluster, DMX and mapping assignations are all cleared and the control is removed from the remote lists. To clear only one part, use clear bind bus or clear bind control.

remote active

ON/OFF switch, default ON. When OFF, all the remote assignations of the control (MIDI, key, OSC, timecode, DMX, binds) are ignored, even if they stay stored in the control. When ON, the assignations are processed according to active mode.

inverse

ON/OFF switch, default OFF. When ON, the received value is inverted before being applied to the control: MIDI values become 127 - value (16129 - value for pitch bend), OSC and bind values in the [0..1] range become 1 - value, relative MIDI moves go in the opposite direction and a sysex learn sends 0 instead of 127.

quantize

Delays the application of a received remote value until the next synchronisation event of the master synchro. The quantization is only applied when the master synchro is playing; otherwise the value is applied immediately. Only available on controls that can be quantized. Default none.

  • none: no quantization, the value is applied immediately.
  • cycle: the value is applied on the next cycle start.
  • bar: the value is applied on the next bar.
  • beat: the value is applied on the next beat.
  • eight: the value is applied on the next eighth note.
  • sixteen: the value is applied on the next sixteenth note.

active mode

Determines when the remote assignations of the control are processed. Has no effect if remote active is OFF. Default always.

  • always: the remote is always processed.
  • if rack is ON: only when the parent rack is enabled.
  • if rack is selected: only when the parent rack is selected.
  • if patch is ON: only when the root patch is running (its control panel is enabled).
  • if patch is selected: only when the control panel of the root patch is selected.
  • if mouse editing enabled: only when the mouse editing enabled setting of the control is ON.

bind buses

clear bind bus

Button. Removes the bind bus assignation of the control: binding is emptied and the control is removed from the bind bus remote list.

binding

Name of the bind bus the control listens to (empty = no bind). Each time the bus value changes, it is applied to the control (in the [0..1] range, scaled to the control range, after inverse and the mapping settings). On a panel, the bus enables it when the value is above 0.5; on a button, it triggers it. The control is highlighted with the color of the bus while it receives values.

bind controls

bind ID

Unique ID of the source control this control is bound to (empty = no bind). The source is looked up by this ID; if it no longer exists, the bind is cleared automatically. The value of the source control is copied to this control each time it changes, scaled from the source range to the target range (switches and data values follow inverse; listbox, trigger and color values are copied as they are).

bind caption

Read-only. Caption of the source control identified by bind ID, refreshed automatically when the bind is processed. Also available as an outlet on modules.

clear bind control

Removes the bind control assignation: bind ID and bind caption are emptied and the control is removed from the bind control remote list.

MIDI

start midi learn

Button. Arms the MIDI learn: move a control on your MIDI device and the first message received is assigned to the control (channel, control type, control num, device name and, if the device is declared as motorized in the devices panel, motorized are filled automatically).

device name

Name of the MIDI device the assignation is restricted to. Filled during the learn when the memorize device name in learn setting of the setup panel is ON. When empty, the assignation reacts to all connected MIDI input devices; MIDI feedback (motorized) is also sent only to the device with this name unless MIDI feedback to all is ON in the setup.

Use [Ctrl+Click] to delete the name association so the MIDI learn will react with all the connected devices.

channel

MIDI channel used for the MIDI assignation, from 1 to 16. Only messages received on this channel are taken into account.

control num

Data number of the assigned MIDI message, from 0 to 127: note number for notes and poly aftertouch, controller number for control changes. Ignored for program change, channel aftertouch and pitch bend, which match any number.

control type

Type of MIDI message assigned to the control (the MIDI status value is shown in parentheses).

  • none: no MIDI assignation.
  • note OFF (128).
  • note ON (144): a note OFF of the same note also sets the control to its minimum (except in toggle mode).
  • poly aftertouch (160).
  • control change (176).
  • program change (192): the program number is used as value.
  • chan aftertouch (208): the pressure is used as value.
  • pitch bend (224): the 14-bit value (0 to 16129) is used.

midi mode

Choose between the 3 MIDI assignation modes in Usine. Default absolute.

  • absolute: the received value (0 to 127) is scaled to the control range. For a switch or a panel, the control is ON while the value is not 0 and OFF on a value of 0 (or on the note OFF). For a button, any non-zero value triggers it. For a listbox, the value selects the item proportionally.
  • relative: for endless encoders. The received value is interpreted as a signed increment around 64 (APC style values below 32 or above 96 are also supported): a float fader moves by (value - 64) / 127, an integer fader or a listbox goes to the next or previous item, a button is triggered on each message.
  • toggle: each received message with a non-zero value toggles a switch or a panel between ON and OFF, or triggers a button. On listboxes and integer faders, each message increases the current value by one until the maximum is reached, then restarts from the minimum.

mackie mode

ON/OFF switch, default OFF. Only used together with motorized. When ON, the MIDI feedback is always sent back to the controller, including for the value just received (as required by the Mackie Control protocol to update displays, leds and fader positions). When OFF, the value just received from MIDI is not sent back, to avoid MIDI loops.

motorized

ON/OFF switch, default OFF (set automatically during the learn when the device is declared as motorized). When ON, each time the value of the control changes Usine sends the corresponding MIDI message (same channel, control type and control num) to the MIDI output devices so that motorized faders, leds or displays follow the on-screen value. The message is sent to the output device named in device name only, unless MIDI feedback to all is ON in the setup or the name is empty.

soft take over

ON/OFF switch, default OFF. When ON, an incoming MIDI (or DMX, bind bus) value is ignored as long as it differs from the current position of the control by more than 4%, unless the control was already moved by the remote during the last second. Once the hardware control matches the on-screen value, the control latches on and follows it again.

For instance say you have a line fader turned all the way up on the hardware, then you move the onscreen line fader to the bottom. With soft-takeover ON, the onscreen fader will not react to the line fader until you move the line fader all the way down to match the on screen value. The control will then latch on and will be active again.

sysex

System exclusive string assigned to the control (hexadecimal bytes, filled by the MIDI learn when a sysex message is received). Each time the same sysex is received, the control is set to its maximum (or toggled, depending on the control type and midi mode); with inverse ON it is set to its minimum.

Key

start key learn

Click on this button and press a key (or a key combination ie. [ALT+E]) on your keyboard to assign it. Only available on controls that accept key learn. [Esc] cancels the learn.

key

Text of the key or key combination assigned to the control, as displayed in the settings (for example A or ALT+E). You can also type it by hand: in that case shortcut is 0 and the text is compared, in uppercase, with the typed character. Empty means no key assignation.

key mode

Determines how the key affects a switch. Default toggle. Only available on controls that allow changing the key mode.

  • absolute: the switch is ON while the key is held down and goes back to OFF when the key is released.
  • toggle: each key press toggles the switch between ON and OFF.

Buttons are triggered and panels are enabled/disabled on each key press whatever the mode.

shortcut

Numeric key code of the assigned key (0 to 65535, ex: A=65), including the modifier bits, filled automatically by the key learn. 0 means the key text is used as a user key.

mapping

mapping curve

Curve applied to the received value (in the [0..1] range) before it is scaled to the control range, for MIDI, DMX, bind bus and OSC in in [0..1] mode. Default linear.

  • log or exp: power curve x^(1/coeff); a mapping curve coeff below 1 gives an exponential-like curve, above 1 a logarithmic-like curve.
  • S curve: S-shaped curve whose strength depends on mapping curve coeff.
  • linear: no curve, the value is used as is.

The resulting curve is drawn below the settings.

mapping curve coeff

Coefficient of the mapping curve, from 0.001 to 100 (logarithmic scale), default 1. Has no effect when mapping curve is linear.

mapping range max

Upper limit of the mapped value in the [0..1] range, default 1. The received value (after the mapping curve) is rescaled between mapping range min and mapping range max before being applied to the control range. If it is lower than mapping range min, the control stays at mapping range min.

mapping range min

Lower limit of the mapped value in the [0..1] range, default 0. See mapping range max.

OSC

start OSC learn

Click on this button and use a control of your OSC device to assign it. The address of the first OSC message received is stored in OSC message and OSC tag order is reset to 1.

OSC message

OSC address assigned to the control (for example /1/fader1). Each message received with exactly this address sets the control (buttons ignore messages with a 0 value, panels are enabled when the value is above 0.5). Empty means no OSC assignation.

OSC mode

Determines how the received OSC value is interpreted. Default real value.

  • real value: the value is applied to the control as it is received, without scaling.
  • in [0..1]: the value is considered to be in the [0..1] range and is scaled to the control range, after the mapping settings.

OSC tag order

Index (1 to 256, default 1) of the argument used when the OSC message carries several values at once (for example the X and Y of an XY pad): 1 uses the first argument, 2 the second, etc. Reset to 1 by the OSC learn.

timecode

Timecode position at which the control is triggered (buttons and other trigger controls). The trigger happens once, when the incoming timecode passes this position. 0 means no timecode assignation.

timecode OFF

Timecode position at which a switch control is set to its minimum (OFF). Only checked if the timecode ON position was not reached at the same time.

timecode ON

Timecode position at which a switch control is set to its maximum (ON). 0 means no timecode assignation.

VCA

vca

Name(s) of sources VCA's. One control can be controlled by several VCA at the same time so the VCA values are multiplied together.
To enter several names use comma separated string like VCA1,VCA2,VCA3. Names are converted to uppercase and trimmed when applied.

clusters

cluster name

Name(s) of the owner cluster(s). One control can be in many clusters at the same time, but be aware that you could have conflicts (different value sent at the same time).
To enter several names use comma separated string like CLUSTER1,CLUSTER2,CLUSTER3.

DMX

DMX universe

Art-Net universe number (0 to 32767, default 0) the control listens to. Only DMX packets received on this universe are taken into account.

DMX channel

DMX channel (1 to 512) assigned to the control in the universe, 0 (default) means no DMX assignation. The received byte (0 to 255) is scaled to [0..1] then applied: faders follow the value (through the mapping settings and soft take over), switches and panels are ON when the value is above or equal to 0.5, buttons are triggered when the value rises above 0.5, listboxes select the item proportionally.
