audio_midi_conductor users i need advice
nay predict that to me and i think is getting right now:
I seriously consider leting down live and 'do it all' in usine, it took me the time, think im ready to try seriously now.
My first tries with direct Vst pins control and conductor were quite jucy impressive, i just question a lot of what would be my
best workflow. In example i tried the grid mode, and with several tracks and patch launch them or recall with conductor.
im wondering how people here compose audio/midi with usine. I don't think i wanna use the sequencer but more an ableton type
grid, each "clip" having a certain Vst, a load of automations, lfo ect, but to be efficient, the same vsti setup could have differents midi sequences and automations. I was espected that making a sequence in pianoroll, changing conductor and make a new sequence
would recalls the sequences, but from what ive understood we deal with the pianoroll sequence nb, wich might be more modular probably, just wonder if that's the general used way here..
my question is a bit abstract but i dlike to see if some has a good setup or advices relating grid/ presets manager and conductor.
I imagine myself make dedicaced patch's (ie one for kicks, one for basses, or maybe a drumbox, dk, with reduced but adaptatives
controls, need to find a good modular/workflow/cpu ratio)...

Hello,
I have been thinking the same about Live, Usine could be enough for most of the task I do with Live (basically drums and vsti plugins). Also, as you noticed, I would like to find a way to make midi sequences that could copy and paste between modules, that way, it would be easy to construct complex rithmic patterns from simpler ones. What do you think about it?.

hi floego, yup i search such a ways to reproduce an equivalent for "clips". there are tons of different ways in usine.
I feel globally the pianoroll is the way to go, but then there are again tons of uses. ie can uses sequences numbers and change nb with conductor, or direct save/recall sequences via preset manager, so some experiments may help find the best way.
You re right about copy and paste. I ve found a workaroud via the event Array of pianoroll, if you put this to an array, can then "repaste" to a second module.

For example, I would like to see any module with a combination of the funcionality of a pianoroll (the 16 tracks one, 1 visible and the other 15 hidden as drafts) and the visual feedback that the matrix could give at.
yup im not sure i right understood what ya mean but you must speak about kind of reproducing the session view of ableton,
wich im also after. clicquing on a "clip", (so in usine a patch on the grid?) would display that clip only of that track, with it's midi sequences and curves?.
then we might need find a way to make kind of template to speed up the process for each "new clip". I was thinking of finding a way to easy connect some curves to a vst param. Im quite sure there can exist such equivalent on usine via iml or other.
cause that's what make ableton powerfull imo, if droping a vst, in two second can edit it's midi sequence and automate any param with it's name, and automations can all have differents loop length. One the other side usine is not such locked as ableton, but finding ways to get that really often job access would be nice.
I imagine the matrix module, wich will be able to have color and captions soon could be a good chalenger as "visual" matrix,
it could then triggers patchs of the grid, lines or cols ,scenes, and the selected patch/clip would bring the according pianoroll/params on display to edit, or directly using the main usine grid as the trigger matrix, don't know...lot of questions..
the reflexion im after now is how to build such "enhanced piano roll", ableton "clip" equivalent template patch, with easy access of vst/module param that would also be able to play several curves of different length, cause im not sure the actual curve system of pianoroll, sending infos via midi and locked to same length is the way to go in this kind of situations. it can be really good for some other type of uses.It has the low cpu/midi and several curves in one advantages, but i think a physicall or wireless wiring and independant length is better and more modular for what I/we re after.
as an example im quite sure with iml and comming soon arrays on vst params we could move a param on a vst, catch it's name and value, and then we could create an automation via curve points or lines (also a questionning) of independant length. then a second point to find is an easy way of controlling length/curves. Most modules have a quick bar/loop/cycle conveniant setting, but ideally i dlike to find a quick acces to ie make a loop of 1/2 bar on cutoff while a 2 bar on volume ect...
. so how to? if bypassing curves of pianoroll, it would imply kind of dynamic creation of new curve modules on demand, or a pre-set nb of modules, or a script reading all internal automations. and also a different way of controlling time. maybe kind of master sync directly controlling step positions, or loop lenght in ms setting modules on "loop", .. lot's of questions.. maybe it could be a feature request on piano roll, but im quite sure there is a way to make our own "clip" template, more fitting each user needs.. but we need to find the best Cpu/modular/speed workflow patch, this could be loaded a couple of times, in ableton i usually
get about 16trX128clips so 2048 clips easily for a long live set, so maybe a different aproach, having only one "clip" module per track but being able to save/load linked to differents setting/modules/vst it a better way than loading 2048 patchs..
then it's what i miss find an easy way on how to separate the midi/curve parts settings "clip" that would be ie grid cellz, but contolling the same vst or another one that that same track.
let me know if you have any reflexion about this, i think we are after the same kind of control..

About the piano roll, I think it could be more useful if it could work as an append of other modules, not as an independent module by itself. So in practice the piano roll should be working as a slave "clip" maybe?. And many piano rolls could be grouped/ungrouped/chained/unchained together, both physically and visually?. For example, for every added vsti module in a proyect there could be automatically loaded a ready-to-use blank piano roll (by default) working as a clip. Is it understandable what I have said? :/
Nice!, you have talk a lot of things to think about!!. And yes, we are looking for similar kind of controls.
As you said above, the coming additions in Usine could open a new window of posibilities for our needs.

ah yup now i see what ya mean, yes a template that auto create a pianoroll on vsti drop, as well as audio out too.
mmmm that's maybe doable actually , have to investigate.. yes i think too about that could be nice.
