hello,

Recording the bass liner is quite fun , but unfortunatly when i 'm recording the note pattern, i noticed that i wasn't recording his velocity. i have looked inside the patch, and it seem that velocity datas are directed only towards the audio output.
how can i record the velocity ??

thank u :)

are you talking about the bass liner + velocity patch in the library?
actually how do you record the bass line? do you transform midi input to array?

yes i 'm talking about that patch, and i'm recording it with cubase!!! and then, importing the midi recomposed bass liner part in Usine. (if u have time to have a look to my post in the General discussion where i expose a problem, the topic is ' midi file and sequencer')

thank u :)

The velocity step module in that patch as it is distributed is set up to control the audio output of the sampler. I reckon that you've added a MIDI Out module instead of or in addition to the sampler to send MIDI to Cubase.

You either have to use a Create MIDI Message module to combine the note/pitch output and the velocity output into a single MIDI message, or you could connect the velocity to "gain" on the existing MIDI Transform module in the patch. Either way you have to mess around with the min/max value of the velocity module to get something useful.

Obviously i didn't manage to make it work :). And once again i'm soliciting some help from the north!!!

So i'm using the patch "bass liner+velocity" in order to create a groove box using Native Instruments Battery. The construction of the bass liner is perfect for what i need to do, except the fact that i can't have for now midi velocities values.

When u say "connect velocity to "gain" i understand obviously where i have to connect it but what i don't know, is what you call "velocity" is it the module "step" in the bass liner patch ?? i tried to connect this out to the gain of the Midi Transform and adding a piano roll to the out of the midi transform and while recording, there is no velocity changes !!!!!

When u say messing around with min/max what does it mean ??? because i have changed some values and nothing changed!!

Thanks in advance...

Sorry Noise2sine, I guess I didn't explain very well what I meant.

If you keep the connection to the MIDI transform, you should alter the output of the "velocity" sequenced steps module to something like min=-80, max=12 (or a smaller interval if you prefer). As it is, it outputs only values between 0 and 1 which doesn't really amount to much variation... You should also remove the gain fader, or else the steps and the fader get added at the gain input, or - if you want to keep the fader - change the min/max values to a smaller interval so it's useable for adding or subtracting values to the steps' output.

I think i can start hoping that i will enventually understand!! so how can I manage to have negative values from the velocity step module output ???? oh my little rabbit head is hurting!!!

Just like positive values, but with a minus in front..: Select the module, click on the min/max parameter in the list, and enter value manually. You could also connect faders to the min/max values if you want, of course.
