Erroneus rack ins and outs?

When I use the 'load rack' module it's creating extra ins and outs. I have a script that repeatedly calls 'load rack' to load multiple identical instances of a rack. The most common problem is adding the first rack as an input to every subsequent rack, but sometimes I get different results. A test with a dead simple rack reveals no problem....

Is there some way to tell a rack to add another rack to it's input or output besides drag and drop?? Maybe I am doing that by mistake....
