Text input to Conductor for Name of New Patch

Tell us what you'd like Usine to do

I'd like to come up with a way of meaningfully automatically naming patches in the conductor. I'm thinking of taking text outputs from various elements, and concatenating the strings somehow. Seems like Usine has some good text manipulation options. Or maybe I could script something. But I'd like to default name patches something more informative than 'snap x'.

But I'd need an input to the Conductor for a text string to be used for the name of an appended patch. I tried hooking up a textfield output to the NameActual input, but that doesn't seem to affect the names of new patches--I guess it's just a 'thru'?

If I have to name patches by typing from the keyboard, I wish I could do it in a larger textbox than the one in the conductor. It's pretty small to open from a touchscreen! (Well, that's why my rig has a touchpad mouse--can't do everything by touch yet...)

Anyway. That's the last request for today!

cheers,

try using a 'text (comment)' module. this seems to allow concatenating text using the array modules and might be what you're looking for? it's be nice to be able to type directly into a text (comment) instead of the extra dialogue box that opens - whatta you think senso?

concatenating text seems to work ok but creating an array to add to the inital text uses ascii codes (i think...) for the text (eg. put 72 in the array editor and you get 'H' added to the initial text). you also need to use a get element array module to change the concatenated text. theres probably a lot more can be done with the array modules here, but i've just had a quick look at it... hope this helps you out

I'll see if I can add a new inlet in the Conductor module like 'Prefix string' used as default name for new conductor lines.

excellent - sounds great! can we do a similar thing with the send/receive busses? i'm thinking about making my killamix interface use independent bus id's but currently i don't think i can input text to the bus name...

The input 'bus name' inlet will be accessible in the patch as a normal text input. So you will be able to change it in real time.
next version (beta 12)
