The real question isn't it : "how to turn cubase into a more creative tool"?
Hey! no doubt you can do it! OK!
But should not it be Steinberg's job?
Do'nt you want to be and stay a free musician?

You could maybe think about the possibility of making short sequences of smooth automation (no clicks!) easyly and quickly writable and mapable, quantisation free (or not), stored in a library, that you can start, stop or repeat, things like that. Remember what you've said: ? Improvisation longuement pr?par?e ?.
This is the actual issue of live music with computer tools.

Your inspiration is much more art-oriented than NI's. Your stuff is not a funny sound game but an artistic production tool. Your orientations are much more esthetic than incredible effects. This laks in computer world - and this is the field that Arturia decided to invest.
You could by example realy take advantage of some Reaktor's tools and capabilities to make what you initialy thought: an UI that turns computer in (any) musical instrument.
But well, okay, I'll make it short:
You could be programmer, or musician, or composer, or teacher, or sound designer, or two, or three, or maybe all of those things together and more. Sure you could.
But the matter is that you're an artist and only an artist can tell you that.
This is the matter: create artistic stuff, not tools for artistic stuff!

You got the solution of your actual problem with Usine. It's in yourself.

Mais en effet, je r?fl?chis actuellement ? une ?volution majeure qui se refl?tera dans le titre probable du prochain projet ? Musique non quantis?e ?. (...) Donc ma prochaine version du concept et du programme devront permettre une musique ? sans rythme ?, en tout cas sans carcan rythmique impos? par l?ordinateur...
Dont waste time with some kind of Cubase-Like improvement.
Cubase can make just like Cubase do, so if it's what they want, they just have to use Cubase.
We want to be able to play the way we feel. A flowing tempo, a singing tempo. Something that lives.
